WAKTC Qualifying Throws Are Back

June 20th, 2025

Your shot at the World Championship!

For those who are new to the sport, Qualifying Throws are a set of mock, solo player games, thrown under the supervision of a Certified Judge. Qualifying Throws give throwers across the world a final chance to earn their place at the World Axe & Knife Throwing Championship (WAKTC). Designed for anyone who hasn’t secured a bid through tournament play or leagues due to an injury, lack of access to a WATL Affiliate, or other similar reasons, this program helps us to bring the best throwers in the world together for the biggest competition in axe throwing!

Submission Window

Throwers will have just over five weeks to submit their official Qualifying Throw video for each eligible discipline. Below is the tentative submission period for Qualifying Throws:

Opens: January 2, 2026
Closes: February 1, 2026

Flex League Now Counts Toward Qualifying Eligibility

To be eligible for Qualifying Throws, throwers must complete 28 games in a WATL league during the qualifying year. That includes Standard League, Marathon League, and now Flex League.

Flex League brings structured competition to throwers with limited availability or no nearby venue. Inspired by and treading the path paved by the Quarantine Axe Throwing League (QATL), it’s a fully remote league format designed for accessibility anytime, anywhere. Flex League has the massive benefit of pitting competitors against others regardless of geographic location. Competitors can go head-to-head with players that they would normally only get to play against at a tournament.
