Thank You, Sarah Sed – WATL Leadership Update

August 12th, 2025

After years of exceptional leadership and dedication, Sarah Sed will be transitioning out of her role with the World Axe Throwing League (WATL). Sarah has been active in WATL since its inception as one of WATL’s founding venue owners and has continued to serve as a member of the WATL council until her appointment as Commissioner in 2024. Sarah has left an indelible mark on the league and the broader axe-throwing community. Her vision, hard work, and unwavering commitment have helped shape WATL into the thriving organization it is today.

From Sarah Sed:

“Over the past 8 years, I’ve seen axe throwing grow from a small emerging activity in the US to the competition sport it is today. I’ve personally spent countless hours throwing axes, talking about axe throwing, admiring axes outside of my price range, and teaching others how to throw. It’s been a huge part of my life, my livelihood, and many friendships that I will always cherish.

It’s a bittersweet moment to announce that today is my last day as Commissioner of the World Axe Throwing League. After a lot of life changes, it’s time for me to move on to a new chapter in my life professionally. I am grateful for the time I’ve gotten to spend with all of you, and for the opportunities this sport has created not only for me, but for everyone in the axe throwing community.

Looking forward, like many people, I also face the challenge of not having an Affiliate location near me. I have never been a Pro thrower, but I’m still hopeful that I will be able to participate in the future recreationally. And as the unofficial WATL historian, I will still be available to answer questions!

I wish all of you the best and look forward to seeing what the future brings for WATL and the sport of axe throwing!”

As we look ahead, Mario Zelaya will assume the role of Commissioner, bringing his deep expertise and passion for the sport to guide WATL through this next phase. We’re excited for the future under his leadership and continued support.

To Sarah, from all of us at WATL, thank you for your incredible contributions. Your legacy will continue to inspire us, and we wish you nothing but success in your future endeavors
