New WATL Head Judge

August 31st, 2023

We are extremely pleased to announce two big moves within our team, effective immediately. Starting today, Benn MacDonald will be moving on from his role as Head Judge. However, Benn will continue to serve the community in a newly-created position as Head of Officiating, and he passes on the position of Head Judge to incredibly capable hands.

Benn is one of the founding members of WATL, and his venues were among the first affiliates in the organization. He was instrumental in the creation of the first ruleset for the sport, giving credibility and cohesion to a new organization. He stands as an example of professionalism and strong decision-making and has been an integral part of the growth of the sport as a whole as well as with his own league members across his various locations. We are incredibly grateful for the time and commitment he has shown and look forward to his transition into his new role.

As Head of Officiating, Benn will be working closely with the WATL rules and judge teams, the Council, the Head Judge, the Commissioner, and all those certified as judges to clarify and correct any discrepancies or inconsistencies.

Finding the right person to fill Benn’s shoes in the role of Head Judge for an organization that is settling into its own is no small task. While that wasn’t intended as a short joke, we are glad she happens to carry a milk crate around with her.  We welcome Tabitha Fisher as the WATL Head Judge.

“One of my favorite things about axe throwing is its continued growth and advancement, in both the players and the game. It is with great honor that I accept my new role as the Head of Officiating at WATL, and look forward to the challenges this responsibility entails. As Tabitha assumes the mantle of Head Judge, I’m excited for her and her unwavering commitment to excellence. She is a fantastic choice for this role, and I extend my best wishes to her and I encourage you all to extend the same warmth and support to Tabitha.”

Tabitha Fisher has been an essential part of many tournaments in the past few years, serving as Head judge for numerous events on the circuit and off, as well as at WATC. She has earned the respect of the community from her dedication to the growth and development of officiating as well as the incredible integrity with which she makes every single call.

“It truly is an honor to step into my new official rule. Benn has been a wonderful Head Judge and Mentor and his support in this has been amazing.  I look forward to continuing the growth of this wonderful sport and beginning working alongside, WATL, Council, and Benn as we begin preparations for the 2023 Pro-Am and beyond. I want to thank everyone who has supported me along this journey.”

Both Tabitha and Benn will be working together on some higher-level officiating goals and certifications, alongside Sarah Sed and Kristyn Muller Mirasol, and we look forward to what they will be able to accomplish together in their new roles. Please give a warm and well-deserved congratulations to them both the next time you see them!
