Do we have to throw on a live video call with each other?
No, however It’s strongly encouraged! Here’s why:
- Better social connection. Make friends from around the world! Midgame banter and community are some of the best parts of axe throwing.
- More exciting gameplay. Real-time strategy makes matches faster, more dynamic, and way more fun.
Although highly recommended, this is a Flex League! That means your games can be played at your pace, so if there are some opponents that you just can’t seem to coordinate perfectly with, that’s okay!
How do we connect with opponents?
Before the season starts, you’ll be asked to provide your contact info and preferred way to be reached (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Facebook, etc.). You can choose whether it’s shared with everyone or just your weekly opponent. We know an in-app chat would be ideal, but at this stage of development, any interplayer coordination will primarily exist outside of axethrowing.org.
How are ties handled?
If a match ends in a tie, competitors must communicate and coordinate with their opponent to determine who won through sudden death. The rules of sudden death are the same as standard Hatchet gameplay.
What if there’s a disagreement regarding sudden death or a scoring discrepancy?
Use the WATL Flex Report Form to report any inconsistencies or issues. This link can also be found on the app via the “Report an Issue” button, local to the Flex League you’re participating in. We’re all about fair play, and this helps keep the games functional, honest, and competitive.
Is there a tutorial walking through how to participate in a Flex League on the app?

Step 1: Go to the axethrowing.org, under the WATL Leagues page, then select Flex Leagues in the dropdown menu.
Click on the FLEX Rec Season you wish to join.
Then click join, and complete the information it gives to get officially signed up!
