We’re excited to announce that beginning in 2026, the Amateur Championship will officially be part of the World Axe Throwing Championship (WAKTC) weekend every April!
Merging the Amateur Championship with WAKTC on the same weekend creates a more dynamic and elevated experience for Amateur throwers. They’ll now compete on the sport’s biggest stage, surrounded by a passionate community and the top throwers in the world, which brings a whole new level of energy and recognition to their efforts.
This change also reduces costs for participants. Amateurs who were already planning to attend WAKTC can now avoid the burden of a second major trip, saving on airfare, time off work, and travel expenses. For those who weren’t previously planning to attend, this is a unique chance to experience everything WAKTC has to offer, including reduced hotel rates, travel deals, vendors, side events, and more. Ultimately, this integration delivers a true championship experience for Amateur throwers, allowing them to compete alongside the sport’s best in a world-class setting without raising their costs.
Find the new format for the Amateur Championship below with adjustments made based on feedback from the 2024 Amateur Championship and timing constraints. This format is subject to change, but will remain mostly the same, with top throwers earning bids into Stage 2. Once finalized, the official format for the Amateur Championship will be posted on the Qualifying & Tournament Circuit page here.
Amateur or Pro, new or seasoned—the entire community will be under one roof for one amazing event. We’re thrilled to unify the axe throwing community into one epic, action-packed weekend! See below for the updated Amateur Championship format and WAKTC schedule, both subject to change.
And for those curious about the U.S. Open and WAKTC 2026, don’t worry, we’ll have more news on those events very soon. Be sure to follow our social media below and sign up for the tournament newsletter to stay in the loop!
