Summer League Rule Clarification

July 7th, 2022

We have made some minor adjustments that have been in the works, updating language and removing redundancies in our effort to make a clear, streamlined rules document

To keep transparency in our updates, we have also provided an archive of our full 2022 ruleset also available in the Change Log of the updated rules.

League Rules

Updating Language Throughout

Throughout the rules, care has been taken to update the wording clarifying our use of terminology surrounding gameplay.

‘Match,’ ‘game’ and ’round’ were used interchangeably in the previous rules iteration. In this update, each of these terms refer to a specific scenario.

For instance, a ‘game’ is used in reference to a standard 10 throw gameplay, whereas ‘match’ is a set of games in a tournament round.

This language has been updated throughout.

Further Defining Killshots

  • Underlining that the 1st and 2nd Killshots must be alternated.
  • Clarifying that if a player hits a Killshot that has been hit previously, a closed Killshot, no points will be awarded.
  • In the event of a third Killshot attempt if both Killshots have been hit, either Killshot may be attempted.

Clarifying Stalemate Countdown

  • After the initial intent to call the Killshot is made, the opposing thrower has an additional 10 seconds to call their Killshot, they are not held hostage by the other thrower’s call.

Absence and Scheduling

  • Codifying our expectation that venues create their absence policy in advance of each WATL Season and communicate that policy to league members before the first league night.
  • Codifying that each official league week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

Judging

  • Codifying that throwers can not request a specific judge to second a decision.
  • Clarifying that there may be SOME instances where conflicts of interest are unavoidable. However, there are systems in place in the Code of Conduct that account for willful misjudging.

Addition of Televised Tournament Specific Rules

These rules do not affect any sanctioned event, other than Televised WATL Finals .

These rules may be subject to change prior to a Televised event.

Injuries

If an injury occurs and a competitor is unable to continue, the match is terminated and the injured player forfeits their remaining games and matches.

Gameplay

Once both axes have come to rest, players may cross the fault line to move to a pre-communicated spot prior to retrieving their axes.

Leaderboard Tiebreaker Update

Minor adjustments have been made to create consistency with how ties are broken on the seasonal and Circuit Point leaderboards. These have been updated into Section M of the WATL rules.
