Duals Bids For 2022 WATC

August 23rd, 2022

As we announced earlier this month, WATL is adding 32 more Duals bids for Worlds.

After internal discussion, and in consultation with the WATL Council, we are happy to report that we will be re-distributing these bids a bit differently from our original plan.

As a quick background – in 2021 WATL introduced regions as a way to distribute bids to underserved/underrepresented areas to help grow the sport. Each region received a set number of bids for each discipline, based on a combination of thrower and venue density.

In 2022 WATL removed regional bids from Duals, in anticipation of increased “cross-region” partnering of players and so as to not punish players that competed together, but did not live in the same region.

After a review of duals teams throughout this year, that concern has proven to be unfounded on a large scale. WATL had considered re-introducing duals regional bids earlier in the year as a result, however, after talking with stakeholders, it was determined that changing such an integral part of the Worlds qualifying process could cause more damage than benefit.

With the introduction of 32 ADDITIONAL bids, that concern has dissipated, and WATL has decided to re-introduce Duals Regional bids for WATC 2022.

As such, the 32 additional Duals bids will be distributed as follows:

  • Non-Regional Circuit Point Bids: 6
  • Qualifier Bids: 8

The additional 24 bids are distributed by region and will be awarded to the top Circuit Point earners in each of those regions.

  • East Region: 2 Bids
  • Atlantic Region: 2 Bids
  • South Region: 2 Bids
  • Midwest Region: 2 Bids
  • Pacific Region: 2 Bids
  • Mountain Region: 2 Bids
  • Canada West Region: 2 Bids
  • Canada East Region: 2 Bids
  • Global West Region: 1 Bid
  • Global East Region: 1 Bid
