WATL & WKTL Jersey/Sponsors Guide

Updated Jul 28, 2026

Follow the guidelines below to ensure your name and jersey design will be reflected on camera. Updated December 2025.

Pre-approval is no longer required for jersey logos. Competitors are still expected to follow these guidelines. If a competitor earns a spot on a livestreamed or televised match and has a jersey containing inappropriate or banned imagery, they will be required to change into a generic, unnamed jersey.

Jersey Guidelines

Sublime Wear USA is the sole licensed jersey supplier for the World Axe Throwing League.

1. Required Elements

All event jerseys must have the following. The numbers correspond to Figure 1 above.

  1. Country flag of residence or birth.
    • Proof of residence or birthplace may be requested by WATL.
    • Additional official state, province, territory, or country flags are allowed in sponsor spots.
  2. WATL and/or WKTL logo.
  3. Event logo.
  4. Event sponsor, if applicable.
  5. Last name. First names and nicknames are not allowed on the back of the jersey.
  6. Affiliated venue logo.

Which venue you may represent

The venue represented on the jersey may be decided by the player, but must follow these parameters:

  • The player must have permission from the venue they choose to represent.
  • The player must have completed a standard or marathon league, or a qualifier, in the last 12 months, at the venue being represented.
  • If a thrower does not have a venue to represent, a generic jersey will be available.
  • If the venue you are representing does not have a custom-designed jersey, you must use the generic jersey made for that particular tournament.
  • Players may opt to use a generic jersey if they wish.

2. Sponsor Logo Placement

Sponsored logos may be placed in the sections denoted by the green squares in Figure 2.

Up to 8 sponsor logos may be used. Sponsors can be used more than once per jersey, including venue logos, with the following restrictions:

  • Nicknames and personal logos can only be used on the chest (1) or left sleeve (2) spots.
  • If fewer than 6 logos are used for the back spots, logos will be centered and sized up to fill the available space.
  • The 3 and 4 spaces on the back of the jersey may be combined to use two sponsors side by side, or one larger sponsor logo in the middle.

All televised finalists’ apparel and accessories are subject to review. Any unapproved logos or logo placements — including additional logos on clothing, axes, and so on — may be covered up for the broadcast.

3. Closed Venues

Throwers who earned their tournament spot or bid at a now-closed venue, and who wish to represent that venue with their custom jersey, may do so under the following conditions:

  • The venue must be permanently closed — not simply unaffiliated and still operating.
  • The thrower must have earned their bid at that venue via an official league or tournament.
  • They may only represent the venue for the tournament where the bid was earned. After that tournament, the closed venue’s jersey is no longer available for future events.
  • This applies to WATL-run events only. The closed venue’s jersey will not be available to purchase outside of the event ordering.
  • Closed venues must contact WATL to have their design reinstated for the tournament ordering.

Sponsorship Guidelines

1. Sponsor Approval

Only approved sponsors will be added to jerseys. Before ordering jerseys, all competitors must submit their sponsors for review. If unapproved sponsors, logos, or nicknames are uploaded to the jersey order form, they will be removed without notice.

Logos on the previously approved sponsors list have already been approved and do not need to be submitted again.

2. Declined Sponsors

The following sponsors may be declined for broadcast:

  • Sponsors without public information. Links to a website, social media, or other similar public resources are required.
  • Firearms and weapons — this can include companies that host weapon merchandise or content.
  • Gambling, casinos, or contests.
  • Nicotine and cannabis.
  • Controlled substances.
  • Any product or service that includes false or misleading claims.

What is now permitted

  • Charitable organizations are now permitted, provided no URLs or other calls to action appear on the logo. WATL reserves the right to refuse any charitable organization as a sponsor for any reason.
  • Hard liquor is now allowed.
  • Axe venues not affiliated with WATL are allowed as sponsors.
  • All WATL venues are approved logos, so long as they follow the sponsorship guidelines — including but not limited to suggestive imagery and family-friendly depiction.

Axe and knife manufacturers require a specific agreement with WATL prior to approval for sponsorship use.

3. Logo Guidelines

There are limits on what an approved sponsor’s logo may show. Logos cannot include contact information, addresses, phone numbers, or offensive imagery.

On the left, the rejected sponsor has an address and phone number, as well as a suggestive name and imagery. Even if this fictitious company “Bone’d” followed the sponsorship guidelines above, this logo could still be rejected.

4. Challenging a Rejection

You have 48 hours. Competitors may challenge a declined sponsor by emailing [email protected] up to 48 hours after the communication is sent to the thrower. A challenge made after 48 hours of receipt may not be considered, and the sponsor will not be approved for the event in question.

  • Competitors may resubmit the same sponsor for approval at the next televised tournament under the same guidelines.
  • For WATL to resubmit a sponsor for additional vetting, your new submission must be in line with the sponsor and logo guidelines above.
  • WATL can never guarantee the acceptance of any sponsor, and sponsors may be declined for reasons beyond our control.

Terms & Conditions

1. Sponsorship Terms

Submission of any sponsorship material shall constitute your warranty to WATL that all elements have been cleared for distribution — internet distribution, digital or broadband properties — with respect to intellectual property rights. This includes, but is not limited to, rights of privacy and publicity.

All material submitted for approval over any WATL or affiliated network or other media platform is strictly the responsibility of the party submitting the sponsorship material. WATL makes no warranties or representations as to sponsorship material being approved or distributed across various channels.

2. General Standards

WATL reserves the right to:

  • Accept or reject, at any time, material for any sponsor for distribution over any of its tournaments or distribution properties.
  • Require elimination or revision of any material that violates WATL’s Code of Conduct, standards, policies, or guidelines; federal, state, or local laws or regulations; or is otherwise contrary to the public interest.
  • Reject any material where the sponsor material could negatively affect its audience, and reject any material that appears in WATL’s sole judgment to improperly associate the submitting sponsor with a WATL or WATL-sponsored or owned property (for example the USA Pro-Am, the World Axe Throwing Championship, or WATL-owned trademarks).
  • Reject any material or sponsor where sponsor employees, owners, or shareholders have engaged in conduct contrary to the WATL Code of Conduct.

Furthermore, WATL may refuse material or a sponsor — including sponsor employees, executives, shareholders, or owners — where, in WATL’s sole judgment, the material:

  • May violate any rights of any person, firm, or corporation.
  • Contains any false, unsubstantiated, or unwarranted claims for any product or service, or makes any unauthenticated testimonials.
  • Advertises any habit-forming drug, tobacco product, firearm, or firearm ammunition.
  • Contains any material constituting or relating to a lottery, a contest of any kind in which the public is unfairly treated, or any enterprise, service, or product that tends to encourage, abet, assist, facilitate, or promote illegal or legal gambling.
  • Makes any appeal for funds.
  • Contains any material that is defamatory, obscene, profane, vulgar, repulsive, or offensive, either in theme or in treatment; or that describes or depicts repellently any internal bodily functions or symptomatic results of internal conditions; or refers to matters that are not considered socially acceptable topics.
  • Contains or promotes any false or ambiguous statements or representations that may be misleading to the audience.
  • Infringes, or has previously infringed, on WATL trademarks or intellectual property.
  • Includes an element of intellectual property without the owner’s consent to such use — including but not limited to design performance — or gives rise to any other colorable claim of infringement, misappropriation, or any other form of unfair competition.
  • Disparages or libels any competitor or WATL.
  • Is, or might be, injurious or prejudicial to the interests of the public, WATL, honest advertising, or reputable business in general.
  • Promotes CBD or cannabis-related products or services.
