2022 Venue Cup Winner

December 15th, 2022

After 4 weeks of battling it out Venue vs. Venue, all the scores have been tallied, all the maths have been mathed, and one venue has come out on top…

Finishing Second and Third:

2nd Place: Craft Axe Throwing – Lincoln, NE; the Craft Axe throwers improved over their 3 week average of 39.72222 with a week 4 average of 45.56250 – that is an improvement of +5.84028 on the venue average! Congrats on the hard work at Craft Axe.

3rd Place goes to: Angry Jacks Axe Throwing Club, Phoenixville, PA with an outstanding week 4 performance by their throwers, resulting in an increase of + 5.37500 point average in week 4 over weeks 1-3. We know that the Angry Jacks crew worked very hard, including pro lessons to assist and train the Venue Cup throwers. Congratulations on that amazing growth!

Wondering what the Venue Cup is?

In 2022, WATL reduced the amount of time between seasons, to end the year earlier, leaving more time for Worlds bid earners to plan and book their trips. As a result, the league team within WATL came up with an idea to keep throwers engaged in competition through this ‘off-season’, which we have dubbed, the Venue Cup.

The Venue Cup is intentionally designed to be a competition for players that do not earn a 2022 WATC bid to compete in a 4-week mini-league to test their mettle against themselves and others in an effort to encourage growth in their own skills.

How is the winner calculated? Each week the competing venues would average the top and bottom 3 players’ scores, not including any participants that had Words bids. The final week’s (week 4) average score was compared to the average of all the 3 previous weeks, and the winning venue was the one that BEAT that 3-week average by the largest margin.

and now for the winner….

with an unmatched performance in week 4 by up-and-coming superstars, beating their 3-week average with an increase of 6.02778 points!! WATL’s congratulations go to the winners:

Savage Society in Amherst, Ohio!

Congratulations to the Savage Society, and a sincere thank you to all the venues who participated!
